Yollocalli Arts Reach, a youth initiative of the National Museum of Mexican Art, is currently looking for an energetic and highly creative teaching artist to teach our coming Winter after school class that combines Sculpture and Photography.  The instructor will be co-teaching with a Photography teacher.   The class is for youth 13-21 years old.

This is a contract position, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4-7pm, February 4-April 16, 2008.  Prep and Meeting hours also included.

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Necessary skills: Bachelors Degree or at least four years experience as a working artist, strong skills and knowledge in sculpture and installation art, ability to work with another teacher.  Skills not necessary but helpful: Photoshop, past experience with teaching youth, fluent in Spanish, able to work with a variety of material on a budget, writing skills, basic computer skills, active exhibition record, background in both traditional and contemporary sculpture and installation.

 

Instructor will work together with our other instructor in recuriting for students, creating a curriculum for the class, designing innovative class sessions and workshops, teaching a variety of sculpture skills to students, introducing students to a diverse group of sculptors and installation artists, and help students create a final show at the end of the class.  Instructor will also work closely with Yollocalli Staff throughout the class.

Organization Description: 

Yollocalli Arts Reach, a youth initiative of the National Museum of Mexican Art, is an arts education and career-training program for youth between the ages of thirteen and twenty-one.  Yollocalli is designed to serve youth and their respective communities by developing students’ appreciation for and understanding of art.  It is committed to the production, interpretation, and exhibition of art and providing an open forum for experimentation, collaboration, and dialogue about issues in the arts, history, and their community. Free classes are held in our Pilsen art studio and in different satellite locations throughout Chicago.
