ChicagoDanztheatre Ensemble is a multidisciplinary artsorganization that engages and inspires the community through socially consciousperformances and outreach programs. We fuse literature, theatre, contemporarydance, theatre, multimedia and visual art into the content of our performancesand outreach programming.

Kids Projectis a school age outreach program that works to increase awareness of the artsand improve literacy in children of all backgrounds through experiences invisual and performing arts. Similar to the adult performance ensemble, the KidsProject uses literature as a vehicle and introduces students to the fine andperforming arts while increasing literacy skills and fostering greaterself-esteem.

 

Kids Project Teaching Philosophy:

CDE uses a process-orientedapproach in our classrooms so that we can build upon of each child’spersonalities and inherent talents. By giving our students achievable goals, they become more self-confidentand we are able to build on those simple goals by making them morecomplex.  Our “Whole-Child”teaching philosophy enables us to help students learn better ways tocommunicate.  By processingemotions and their physical responses, our students gain an understanding ofbody awareness and become more intuitive to others’ needs.  The “Whole-Child” teaching philosophyallows us to create a flexible curriculum incorporating theatre, dance andvisual art to meet the needs of our students.

 

Kids Project Teaching Objectives:

Engageand inspire students by fusing literature, theatre, dance and visual arts.

Buildupon each child’s personality and inherent talents.

Strengthen student’s literacy skills, critical thinking and self-esteem.

Byteaching creatively gets children to fully understand academic concepts

Current School Positions:

Weare particularly hiring for one of our schools in the Oak Park/Berwyn area,must have car public transportation is tricky to the school. 

·      The program is a combined class of k- 5th grade and lessonplans must be adaptable to challenge the older kids and introduce the arts toyounger.

·      Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays (possible to alternate if not freeevery Friday)

·      2:45 p.m.- 6 p.m. $75 a day. 

·      Position is currently open now until roughly June 2. 

Daily Schedule: 2:45 teaching artistsarrive

3:05 pick up from classrooms
3:15-3:30 snack break
3:30-3:40 bathroom break
3:40-5 teaching time
5:00- 5:25-free time
5:25-5:45 clean up & guided free time
(parents pick up & teaching artist is free toleave after all children have left)

 Possible themes for projects: 

1. Roman/Greek Theatre

2. Renaissances/Elizabethan
3. Kabuki Theatre
4. Golden Age Theatre & Americana

After School Acting class: This Catholic School islocated in Skokie, car needed plus virtues’ training & backgroundcheck.  Class time 3:00- 4:00 p.m.tentative day Tuesdays starting in October for the school year.  Grades 2-5th with end ofyear performance, $40 a class, storytelling and basic acting curriculum hasbeen used in the past but we are open to more ideas. 

Residency School DayPrograms:  currently we are accepting resumes forthis position for future opening. More information to follow at later time. 

 


Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Teaching Artist Position:

CDEis currently seeking teaching artists experienced in teaching children gradesk-5th for our after school and residency programs, specifically instorytelling/theatre arts & visual art. 

 

Candidatesmust have experience teaching, developing curriculum, working with classroomand fellow teaching artists to develop programming.  Must have a desire for fun with kids and innovation teachingmethods.  Background checksrequired.
