Transit, a new non-profit artist residency program, seeks submissions for its kick-off exhibition and fundraiser in October as part of Chicago Artists Month 2010. The theme of the exhibition is TRANSIT, using a dictionary definition of the word:
transit (ˈtrænsɪt, ˈtrænz-) — n 1. the act or process of going, conveying, or being
conveyed, especially over a distance, of goods or people; 2. a change or
transition 3. a passage or route; 4. a.) the passage of a celestial body or satellite
across the meridian, caused by the earth's diurnal rotation, b.) such an apparent
passage across the sun or a planet; 5. the local conveyance of passages on
public transportation; 6. in transit while being conveyed; during passage — vb
7. to make a transit through, across, or over (something) 8. astronomy to make a
transit across (a celestial body or the meridian) 9. to cause (the telescope of a
surveying instrument) to turn over or (of such a telescope) to be turned over in a
vertical plane so that it points in the opposite direction
Funds raised through the sale of work during this exhibition are intended solely to begin our fundraising efforts towards enabling artists time and space to focus on making new bodies of work, and showcasing that work in our galleries.
