Celebrate Chicago Artists Month by joining Joan Arenberg for studio visits with artists across the city. Meet Deb Sokolow, whose text-driven drawings chart the obsessive inner dialogue of a nameless, paranoid narrator who speculates on various topics relating to popular culture, politics, and human nature. Then visit the studio of Geoffrey Todd Smith, who creates colorful, intricate, patterned drawings inspired by a wild geometric order. At the studio of Curtis Mann, a participant in the 2010 Whitney Biennial, learn how the artist appropriates and manipulates found photographs to create new images, transforming documentary photographs into abstract pictures. After lunch at Wishbone, meet Robert Davis and Mike Langlois, collaborators who take an equal role in developing ideas, choosing subjects, and executing their photorealist paintings. Conclude with Richard Hull, whose paintings explore relationships between empty and full spaces, using vibrant colors, expressive lines, and other diagrammatic marks.
