SALVAGE ONE

Salvage One is a sixty thousand square foot showroom in Chicago’s West Town district that has championed creative re-use for nearly thirty years. Its wares, displayed in a high-ceilinged and dramatically windowed converted factory, range wildly from crystal chandeliers to mid-century modern furniture, ornate brass doorknobs, limestone columns and corbels. With ‘Of This Land – The Artist’s Touch’, an exhibition that will overlap with Art Chicago 2009, Salvage One honors artists who create distinct and original work with cultural and natural cast-offs. The effect of the works selected for Of This Land – The Artist’s Touch is to impart a distinct sense of place or ‘terroir’ formed of the places that inspire these artists and of their imaginations much as the qualities of soil, climate, and flora impart ‘terroir’ to a wine.
