Event Type:
Lecture
Thursday, February 5, 2009 12:15pm

The exhibition William Conger: Paintings is on view at the Chicago Cultural Center Exhibit Hall from January 24 to March 29, 2009. Join us Thursday, February 5 in the gallery for a talk with the exhibition curator and William Conger himself. Admission is free to the exhibition and the event.

Lanny Silverman, Curator of Exhibitions, Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, will discuss this exhibition with the artist. William Conger: Paintings is the first major retrospective exhibition of the work by a major figure in the history of abstraction in Chicago.

This selection of over 60 mostly large-scale works will trace the evolution of the artists style over the course of his 50 year long career. Congers vibrantly colored abstract paintings emphasize geometric forms and formal composition, yet still reflect figurative, organic and architectural points of reference, and their titles connect them to literature, the artists memories and metaphoric content.
