The American Watercolor Society hosts a Scholarship Program for Art Teachers. It is open to teachers at the secondary or college level. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage the instruction of the water media. AWS will fund the cost of tuition and materials for attending an instruction period in watercolor painting of at least five days but not more than 6 months in duration. The tuition stipend is paid directly to the sponsoring organization conducting the instruction.

The Abbey Council offers Scholarship and Fellowships in Painting at the British School at Rome. The nine-month Abbey Scholarship is usually given to a promising emergent painter and three-month Abbey Fellowships are awarded to mid-career painters with an established record of achievement.

The Miami University's $10,000 National Young Painter's Competition for the William and Dorothy Yeck Award is an annual juried competition. Each year it is juried by a different high profile critic, artist or curator. The competition is exclusively for Painting and every other year the focus switches between Abstraction and Representation.
