Lilly Fellows are appointed for two years at a rank equivalent to that of assistant professor. The salary is $45,000 for the coming academic year, plus standard benefits, a moving allowance and an annual travel allowance to attend conferences. Fellows are expected to be in local residence throughout the two-year term of their appointments.

Fellows will teach seven courses over a two year period; engage in scholarship or creative work; participate in a two year colloquium; work with a VU faculty mentor; and interact with representatives from a national network of church related institutions.

These teaching Fellowships are open to new scholar-teachers interested in the relationship between Christianity and the academic vocation and seriously considering a career at a church-related college or university in the United States. Research or dissertation topics are not restricted to religion.

Fellows will be recruited from the following disciplines: art; art history; creative writing; history; interdisciplinary studies; languages and literatures; music; music history; philosophy; religion; rhetoric; theater history; and theater arts.

Candidates will be asked to demonstrate their interest in the mission and program purposes of the Lilly Fellows Program and a sense of commitment to explore teaching and scholarship as a Christian vocation.

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

For appointments in the academic years 2009-2011, applicants must have received, or will receive, their PhD, DMA, DFA, MFA, or equivalent terminal degree no earlier than December 2007 and up to (and including) August 2009.
