Estetica Social: Diasporic Narratives

Chicago State University curator Prof. Joyce Owens Anderson and guest curator Jesus Macarena-Avila present an exhibition showing a range art forms by Latinos including digital photography, painting, installation, sculpture and prints.
Cellebrating Hispanic Heritage and Chicago Artists Month, this September 10 until November 3 the President's Gallery will be filled with art work by artists of the Latino disapora. The reception and opening day is September 10, 2008 from 2pm to 5pm co-sponsored by the Latino Resource Center at Chicago State . It runs through November 3, 2008.

“Social aesthetics have a long tradition in Latin American and Latino/a artistic narratives; the exhibition presents three generations of artists whose cultural heritages belong to Guatemala, (the) Dominican Republic, Panama and Mexico. This multi-media exhibition features works by Latin American and Latino artists residing in the Midwest: Lucia A. Gomez (Chicago, Illinois), Diane Kahlo (Lexington, Kentucky), Jesus Macarena-Avila (Chicago, Illinois), Francisco Mora, deceased (Cuernavaca, Mexico), Giselle Mercier (Chicago, Illinois) and Fabio Rodriguez (St. Louis, Missouri)".
