Annie Heckman

Annie Heckman is an artist whose work explores mortality through animation, installation, and drawing. Heckman was born in Chicago, grew up in nearby Park Ridge, and received her BFA in Studio Art in 2002 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her MFA in Studio Art in 2006 at New York University's Steinhardt School. In 2006 she relocated to Chicago and founded StepSister Press, a small publishing company creating books featuring contemporary artists.
Heckman works as a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and runs her studio and business from the city's west side. Heckman recently exhibited a new animation installation, Airline to Heaven, Part II, with NY Studio Gallery in June 2010, and received an Illinois Arts Council Individual Artist Support Grant to complete an animation and phosphorescent installation at Swimming Pool Project Space in Chicago.
