Fall 2010 Interns

Piven Theatre is looking for interns for the Fall Season in the areas of development, production management, and sales/marketing. Piven Theatre Workshop (www.piventheare.org) is a highly regarded 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization located in Evanston, Illinois. The organization maintains a celebrated training center for children and adults, a professional theatre, and various off-site outreach efforts. Development Interns at Piven Theatre Workshop are key members of the administrative team.

The intern works closely with the Executive Director and Development Staff, handling key daily tasks related to development, assisting with logistics related to fundraising and small-group events, maintaining and updating information, and completing small independent projects to grow Piven Theatre Workshop’s ability to fund its mission. The Internship Program at Piven Theatre is designed to help growing theatre artists and arts administrators gain practical experience in a variety of areas within a multifaceted arts education organization.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support related to the department to which you are assigned (development, productions, or marketing)

• Coordinate mailings, including invitations, solicitations, or other materials related to our productions or events

• Maintain information as related to your department within the theatre’s database

• Complete small independent projects as related to your department (ie: coordination of development events, social media updates, providing assistance to creative departments and other ad hoc projects)

• Provide limited communication support, including drafting emails, correspondence, and communications to the Piven theatre community

• Update internal documents and other administrative tasks, as needed

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Qualifications:

• Some college education is required, individuals who have completed at least two years of college education are strongly preferred.

• Ability to use Microsoft Office products, experience using database systems is preferred.

• Strong written communications skills, resulting in grammatically-correct and well-organized documents, are required.

• Strong oral communications skills, resulting in poised and professional personal interactions, are required.

• References speaking to your professionalism, organization, confidentiality, reliability, and ability to follow-through and take independent responsibility for vital tasks are required.

• Individuals with experience working in a theatre or nonprofit organization will be given preference for this position. Individuals with a desire for a career in theatre or the nonprofit sector are strongly encouraged to apply.

• Access to a vehicle is preferred.
