William Rattner, Lawyers for the Creative Arts

Lawyers for the Creative Arts (LCA) is the only provider of pro bono legal services to the arts in this area. [Pro bono means "free."] I don't have a story as such; I have a plea to the arts community, based on hundreds of stories told by the artists who come to us for help.

My plea is simple, and not very original. I am urging each of you to realize that whether or not you like it, you are in business.

Lawyers for the Creative Arts

Legal service referrals to eligible artists in all arts-related areas, and in general legal areas where artists might need help -- including contracts, nonprofit incorporation and immigration.

Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR)

Chicago-based mediation resource that helps individuals, communities, courts and other institutions to manage and resolve conflicts.

Chicago Bar Association

Offers a Lawyer Referral Service and screens all attorneys to ensure they are experienced, licensed to practice, and in good standing with the Illinois Supreme Court.

Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation (CVLS)

Represents low-income Chicagoans with collection defense, bankruptcy, landlord-tenant disputes, insurance issues, etc. Accepts clients whose income is up to 175% of the Federal Poverty guidelines.

Mediarts: A Mediation Program

Mediation services specifically for artists through the Arts and Entertainment Management Project at the Athenaeum.
