We at Spudnik Press recently remembered that we love graphite and
charcoal. We’ve been drawing with needles, painting with asphaltum, and
we forgot about the simple pleasures of a pencil on paper. Form and
contour escaped us somewhere between applying hard ground, and step
etching our plate. And we recently thought, "Wouldn’t it be great to
have a good, old-fashioned drawing class?"
We have invited the talented Layne Jackson to step in for an
evening of drawing to help us reinvigorate our image making processes. more...

Motoworks presents: Art of the Ride," a one person show of etchings, pastel drawings, and paintings by Mark Nelson. Nelson, a former resident of the Panama Canal Zone has been living and working in the city of Chicago for 25 years. The art presented here both celebrates the act of riding as well as Nelson's use of social sarcasm. An Opening Reception with English Ale is scheduled for October 10, 2008 from 5:00PM - 10:30PM. 5 week Nature Sketching course using the local natural environment around the Peggy A. Notebaert Nature Museum and the Chicago Academy of Science's vast collections. Participants will draw in the field and be able to explore a variety of drawing media and techniques. Wednesdays, Septermber 10-October 8, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. $75 members, $90 non-members. Caro d’ Offay gallery is offering an expanded class schedule that includes classes taught by local visual artists using a variety of mediums in a relaxed gallery setting.
Classes include Silkscreen for D.I.Y promotion, Painting (beginning and landscape), Figure Studies with a nude model, Pin-hole Photography, Visual Thinking and the gallery’s signature the Lumetype process.
