Magdalena Abakanowicz: Reality of Dreams
Event Type:
Exhibit
Friday, September 19, 2008 10:00am - Sunday, December 14, 2008 5:00pm

Magdalena Abakanowicz is one of the most potent voices in the art world today. Her original creations, based primarily on human and animal forms, express a spiritual and philosophical quest. Growing up in Poland during World War II and Communist rule, Abakanowicz overcame traumatic events, personal challenges, and political oppression through dogged resourcefulness. Her art is informed by these experiences, and the theme of individuality within an anonymous multitude is repeated in her sculpture and drawings, expressing both vitality and mortality at the same time. more...
