Acme Artists Community
Acme Artists Housing, a project of the Near NorthWest Arts Council (NNWAC), is the first live/work artists’ community in Chicago designed, managed and owned by artists. ACME's primary purpose is to create affordable housing opportunities for artists -- which it does by offering limited-equity condominiums for purchase to the arts community.
Because Acme condominium by-laws give the condo association first right to purchase units for resale, the repurchase and resale price is kept at the original price, plus the actual cost of improvements made by the owner to the space (with a cap of $30,000). Any additional increases in the unit’s resale price are tied to the housing costs in the Chicago Metro area. In other words, if the cost of living as it relates to housing expenses increases dramatically in the area, the increase in the unit will reflect this increase.
