This year, in conjunction with its 25th Anniversary, Highland Park's Port Clinton Art Festival (Aug. 23-24), and the launch the 1st Annual Port Clinton Film Festival (Aug. 21 –24), and 2nd Annual Taste of Highland Park (Aug. 22-24) combine for a phenomenal “Great Art, Great Taste” celebration on the North Shore. Visitors to the Port Clinton Art Festival will be treated to a virtual feast for the eyes as they stroll past booth upon booth of spectacular work from 260 world class artists. Live demonstrations abound and as a special treat, visitors can watch artist Al Lachman and Long Looi Lee work in tandem to create a large scale masterpiece painting, watch glass creations take form at the on-site hot glass studio of Daniel Mardar, catch live sculpture demonstrations by the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt-Amrany or view works by two dozen featured youth artists. Throughout the art festival visitors will also enjoy continuous music ranging from acoustic guitar to classical harp music, jazz, and mouth watering food and drink by some of the area's best restaurants. In the National City Family Art Tent families can collaborate on a variety of art projects and everyone can express their creativity in Paint-A-Car tent by painting on a real car donated by Fields Auto. There is also an opportunity take in on-site literacy events sponsored by the Highland Park Public Library.
Admission to the Art Festival is free. Free parking is available to the public in the area, with additional parking served by the free trolley at the Ravinia commuter lot at the intersection of Roger Williams and St. John’s., just minutes away. Visitors can also "go take the Metra train directly to the festival. Bicycle riders will find bike racks will be manned by local youth groups who will valet bikes for a modest fee.
