The Alcyone Festival Alcyone FestivalHrosvitha, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Susanna Centlivre, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Joanna Baillie—heard of them? Halcyon Theatre offers a comprehensive look at early female playwrights and how their “firsts” have shaped women’s place as a creative force in the arts today. Halcyon will also examine other “firsts” for female playwrights. For example, Hrosvitha (c930-1002) is considered the first dramatist after the dark ages.

Each night will feature a play from a different playwright. Find out more about these playwrights, how the playwright was and is perceived and how the piece touches on issues that we are still dealing with today. In a world where women are becoming more of an equal entity when it comes to theatre, Halcyon helps uncover how far Female Playwrights have come, and how far we have to go.

Shows will be performed in rotating repertory.

---------------------------------
Adler's grimly psychological "The Yellow Wallpaper" is compelling-Adler capably weaves together stinging snippets of text and the suggestion of one woman's world unraveling in almost lyrical measures -- aided by the unsettling music/sound design by Tim Hort, Braham Fetter and Joe Griffin -- the drama remains on an intimate, subconscious plane."  Chicago Tribune
