Other EventWednesday, May 21, 2008 - 4:21pm - Monday, September 1, 2008 - 12:00pm
Another busy week completed; another busy week upcoming. Too busy. I believe I have included all of this week's performances that I'm aware of, and the vast majority of next week's. If there is a glaring omission, I will send out a supplement.
Shameless plug: My son James is one of 16 artists featured in the Brooklyn College MFA Thesis Exhibition May 17 - June 1 at the New York Center for Art & Media Studies (NYCAMS), 44 W. 28th St., 7th fl., Chelsea (N/R to 28th St stop). Gallery hours: Tue-Sat 10 am - 5 pm.
As occasionally happens, I receive word about items after the fact. One such instance is the Oni job posted last week - position closed before the newsletter was sent. So please don't contact the folks about this job.
Advance warning. I will be away for 10 days in June encompassing 2 weekends. Which means there will not be a newsletter for the weeks of June 16 and 23. to be safe, if you have a June performance, send me the information ASAP so it can be included
Let us know where you'll be for summer performances ... both in and out of town. The "If your travel plans include ..." section helps everyone stay connected when on the road.
See the Artist's Non-Housing needs section at the end for opportunities to help out in volunteering at shows, or donating props and the like. Also, visiting artists (as well as NYC residents) need places to stay. See Artist Housing needs section below.
Remember, if you can notify me of performances at least a week in advance, they can be included in the current performance week. And performers, don't assume your choreographer will provide the information. (They're often kinda busy!). If you're performing, let me know so everyone else may know.

Creative Residency host studios are: Bronx
Academy of Arts and Dance, located in the

Surveys, Surveys, Surveys
My friend Anna, who has had a video dance
blog Move the Frame for some time now, is
conducting a little survey to collect
information about the perceptions of Move the
Frame blog and videodance in general. This
is to help improve the blog and make it more
useful to the videodance community. Also,
she is writing a case study on Move the Frame
for her Media Management class on branding at
The New School, so it's a good time to take
stock and get some feedback on the blog. This
survey is really short. It should only take a
few minutes to complete, and your feedback
will be helpful to Anna. Don't worry if you
don't know what videodance is, or have only
glanced at Move the Frame blog once or twice.
All information is useful information

Sway Machinery with Likeness to Lily
Veteran subway-performing singer Jeremiah
Lockwood teams up with an all-star cast of NY
underground greats. Calling upon the sounds
of Malian guitars, Saharan beats, Afro-pop
horns and the B-L-U-E-S, Sway Machinery goes
knocking at the gates of prayer with muscles
swollen and eyes clenched. "Lockwood's
arrangements of Jewish cantorial songs whip
up a frenzy wherein all the world's music can
do that which music does best: celebrate." -
Village Voice
Likeness to Lily is a rare blend of style and
soul. This Brooklyn-based quartet's original
songs by trained opera singer Susan Oetgen
evoke timeless tales of romance and reality,
tinged with modern savoir-faire.

Workshop
Eule Dance and The Pan Asian Chamber Jazz
Ensemble
Choreographer Caron Eule teams up with
composer, jazz violinist and erhu player Meg
Okura to present the premiere of The Crane
Wife. Intertwining traditional Japanese
culture with cutting edge movement and music,
this piece re-imagines an ancient Japanese
fable. Repertoire favorites and musical
selections will fill out the program. The
Family Matinee will be followed by a hands-on
workshop in which children will retell the
story of The Crane Wife using their own
invented movements.

We have two rooms becoming available
in my apartment,.
First, the apartment:
It's a 4-BR, 2 bath duplex occupying the top
2 floors of a 4-story brownstone on
tree-lined 6th Ave. in north Park Slope. It's
2 blocks from either the B/Q or the 2/3
trains and a 10-minute walk to almost every
train at Atlantic Ave. It's on a residential
Ave. between the bars and restaurants on 5th
and the shops on 7th, and a short walk from
Prospect Park. For any of you not familiar
with the area, it's beautiful and has
everything you need. The apartment has been
very recently (as in, still finishing up now)
painted and spiffed up with new fixtures.
There is a laundry room with washer/dryer in
the apartment, hardwood floors, kitchen is
small but with a new stove and a dishwasher,
large living room, free DirectTV. We share
the building only with our landlords, who are
a couple who live on the bottom two floors
with their dogs.
Bedroom #1 is available anytime from
around May 10 to June 1--we're flexible. It's
on the top floor, street side, on the small
side, but there's enough room for a bed, a
dresser, and a desk, and there's some
additional storage space available elsewhere
in the apartment. It's newly painted, and
it's $770/month.
Bedroom #2 is available June 15. It is
also on the top floor, street side, lots of
light. It's a big room. I'm not so great with
the square footage, but people have fit a
queen-size bed, a dresser, a desk, and a
futon/couch in there, with room to walk
around. There's also a (non-working) marble
fireplace and a large closet with some
built-in organizers. It's also newly painted,
and is $917/month.
There are 4 people total living in the
apartment. I live on the first floor,
everyone else on the second. The new people
would share the top-floor bathroom with each
other (so you only have to share a bathroom
with one other person). My roommate Dan is a
writer and works for a children's book club
as well. I am a book scout. We're both in our
early 30s. We're looking for someone friendly
but fairly quiet (we read/write a lot at
home), responsible, clean, down-to-earth,
etc.
Rent is as listed above, heat & hot water
included. Utilities (includes electric,
dryer/cooking gas, and wireless internet) run
an additional $30-$50 per person, depending
on the season.
Contact amberhoover@gmail.com for more info
or to set up an appointment.

Looking to sublet my room while I'm on tour and away this summer. The room would be available starting any time after June 26th and my return dates are somewhat flexible (say early August). My room is part of a 4 bedroom apartment, has its own private entrance from the hallway in a 3 unit town home. It's in Park Slope just 1.5 blocks from the F train at 15th St (25 min to Chelsea) and also 1 block away from Prospect Park. This is a very safe, quiet, family oriented neighborhood. The roommates are all performers/creative people (actor, standup comic, tv production assistant), ages 23-27. There is also one well behaved Boston terrier. Laundry facilities are onsite as well as wireless internet. The rent is $600/month all utilities included, preferably renting out the entire month of July with that month's rent in advance and the rest of the time pro-rated upon arrival. There is also a chance that we might be needing a new roommate (the actor is moving to Chicago for grad school in August), so we can talk about that too if you're interested. Let me know if you have any questions. Contact Sera @ 206.779.1094 or skhued@gmail.com.
