From Samson’s eternal darkness to the breathtaking calm of the Nocturne from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, composers paint the night in vivid musical colors. Acclaimed tenor William Burden is featured in a richly varied program that also includes Mozart’s beloved Eine kleine Nachtmusik.

RCP's 19th Season Opening Celebration Concert

Theme & Variations

The concert begins with Beethoven's Quintet for Piano and Winds. From Beethoven we shift to the American composer Amy Beach and her passionate Theme and Variations for flute and string quartet, which premiered in 1916. Our final piece for the evening is Mendelssohn's Sextet, which is unusually scored for piano, violin, two violas, cello, and bass.
