[Chicago] within(Reason: a contemporary art and photo space is proud to host works by Laura Cutler in a solo show opening Nov. 14.
Laura received her BFA in Ceramic Sculpture from Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, in 1996. “After three years teaching and working in my Venice beach studio, I left for NYC to attend the New York Academy of Art to increase my knowledge of human anatomy in both sculpture and painting. In 2006 I decided to dedicate my full attention to oil painting and in 2007 received an Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.” more...

Site #2 this week-end in the 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios is Motowork's Art of the Ride," a one person show of etchings, pastel drawings, and paintings by Mark Nelson. Nelson, a former resident of the Panama Canal Zone has been living and working in the city of Chicago for 25 years. The art presented here both celebrates the act of riding as well as Nelson's use of social sarcasm. Refreshments will be available to visitors over the week-end of October 18-19, 2008 from 12:00pm - 8:00pm. FREE TRANSPORTATION will be available to the general public. more...

The Underscene participates in Chicago Artist's Month with "Nothing To Do With a Red Pick Up Truck." Art goers won't find it on the "map" but those willing to explore beyond the beaten path will find an art happening like nothing else. Residents of the building open their studios, a video show will highlight regional videographers, and local artists take over common spaces with photography, mixed media, installation, etc. Live music on Friday night.
