The Contemporary has annually awarded studio workspace to approximately twelve artists working in a variety of visual media. With twelve studios available, the program fosters a collaborative environment that supports the creative process. The program also serves as a source for information concerning the local and national exhibition scene.

Provides 110 subsidized studio workspaces in mid-town Manhattan for visual artists. Membership in the EFA Studio Center is by open-application, juried selection; however, due to the overwhelming demand for spaces, there is a waiting list of up to two years for new member applications.

Located on the top floor of the studio complex at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Studio 18 is a residential studio for visiting international and interstate artists. Visiting artists undertake residencies for three-month periods to participate in exhibition and cultural exchange projects, and to pursue independent studio practice.

The Studio Artist program at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft provides space in which professional craft artists can expand the parameters of their chosen medium, explore new directions in their work and enhance their creative vision, and at the same time advance the Craft Center's goal of educating the public through seeing and participating in the hands-on making of craft. The Center solicits applications on a regular basis.

LMCC currently offers its residency program in two locations: Workspace on the 8th floor of 120 Broadway and an emergency residency for artists from the Gulf Coast on the 4th floor of 200 Hudson. Like its former location in the World Trade Center, these programs continue our mission to place artists in studios just blocks from Wall Street, changing what it means to “work” in the Financial District. To date, we have served over 250 resident artists by offering free studio space, a small stipend and access to a community of peers and experts as well as a final Open Studio Weekend.

The Space Program is a national program that awards 17 free studio spaces to visual artists. The 17 studios are non-living spaces for the making of new works of art. There is no stipend or equipment provided. Juried by a panel of artists. Studios are available beginning Sept. 15, 2008 for periods of up to one year.

The artist installation projects at Project Row Houses consist of eight houses used as gallery spaces for the exhibition of installation art. Regional, national, international and local artists are commissioned to work within the community to create artwork in one of these houses, on a 6 month, rotating basis. Every six months a newgroup of 7 artists are invited to transform one house each.

Smack Mellon Studios offers studio space to eligible artists for a one-year period. The program provides artists working in all media - studios, workshop facilities, technical support and high-speed Internet access. The Studio Program is a separate program from the Exhibition Program. Studio artists are generally not given an exhibition in the gallery. The public is invited in to view work twice annually during open studios. Curators and dealers make planned studio visits with the artists.
