The Old Rauma is one of the Unesco's Cultural Heritage Sites and the largest area of wooden houses in the Nordic countries. The city of Rauma is situated at the west coast of Finland and has about 38.500 inhabitants. The aim of the RAUMARS residence programme is to provide working facilities for artists, to organise educational events, seminars etc. The main objective is community art; the guest artists take part into community projects and workshops. The RAUMARS residence programme is international, open for artists in the fields of visual arts, architecture, design, art handicraft, literature and music. The artist is expected to work within the local community, take part to the workshops etc. Part of the residency time will be private time to practise his or her arts. Accommodation premises for two artists, 60 sq m, 2 rooms, kitchen, wc/shower. The duration of the residence is 2-6 months. Special space and equipments available if needed. Send a written application to the Lönnström Art Museum. Ask the Lönnström Art Museum for application forms.
The selection criteria are previous works and the project plan in which the applicant presents his or her plan for the residency time and the projects and workshops he or she could provide. Participation in the projects will cover the rent. The artist has to cover his or her living and travel expenses. Kolin Ryynänen is situated in the eastern part of Finland at the centre of the village of Koli. The village has about 300 inhabitants and the way of life is peaceful and quiet. The Koli National Park is located within a close range.
Koli´s nature and hill landscape provided inspiration for several Finnish writers,painters and composers during the National Romantic Period at the end of the 19th century. The main building of the centre was built in 1930´s and it has been renovated in 1997-99. The centre is consisting of the main building, an outbuilding, the building of the Koli Local Arts-and-Crafts Museum and a sauna. There´s a cafe at the first floor of the main building and it is possible to arrange small art exhibitions there. The artists accommodation premises and studio is located at the second floor. There´s also 6 rooms for accommodation at the outbuilding plus one lounge and one room to be used as additional working space/studio. Kolin Ryynänen is a member of Res Artis. An artist living and working in the residence pays a moderate monthly rent during the stay and takes care of his/her living costs and travel expences. The artist may apply for a scholarship from the Koli Cultural Society to cover the rent. It´s also possible that the artists´ "home organisation" gives the artist a scholarship to live and work in Finland and for the travel costs. Duration of residencies: 1-4 months. Applications: by artist to the Koli Cultural Society. A free-form application which should include a curriculum vitae, exhibitions of works, a plan for the use of the time of the residency and the desired length of stay in the residence and the dates. Application deadlines: by 30.9 and by 31.3. The Koli Cultural Society does the selection. Type and size of studios: One, open space appr. 50m². Windows on three walls, spot lights, water faucets, slide projector. Accommodation: A flat, appr. 58 m²; two rooms, kitchen and a bathroom. Fully equipped, including furniture, linen, kitchen ware, dishwasher, microwave oven, TV+VCR, laundry machine and a telephone. |
