September 15th through 19th, All Around the City
The Chicago Motion Graphics Festival provides five days of educational, entertainment and networking events featuring artists such as: Herzog & de Meuron, Lucas Arts, N.A.S.A. featuring Tom Waits, Kanye West and Old Dirty Bastard, Basement Jaxx, Warp Records, NinjaTune, Royksopp, The Crystal Method, Puma, The Flashbulb, Carl Burgess, The Mill, Dvein, Pleix, Psyop, Max Hattler and many more.
The festival begins on Wednesday 15 September with a "Meetup Massive" networking event that includes over seven different Chicago user groups dedicated to art and creativity. After the supermeet premiers the MGFest Screening Series including selections from Stash's DVD Magazine and Lumen Eclipse's video art exhibits in Boston's Harvard Square. Curated from international talent, the screenings occur at Columbia College's Ferguson Center and set the tone for MGFest's focus of showcasing innovative local and global artists.
Thursday night, MGFest highlights artists which use video as a live performance medium, often called VJs. Premiering at the Chicago Cultural Center, the Match^Up features 7 video performers and 7 audio performers paired through a unique collaboration process. Each Audio+Video pair has one week to complete a custom-created 20 minute performance for this very special night.
Educational workshops, Wednesday through Sunday, are hosted at Future Media Concepts downtown. Courses include: Maxon's Cinema 4D with Mograph, using Adobe Flash ActionScript to create programming-based animation, and two "in the studio" Sound Design Intensives with two of the Midwest's most talented sound designers, Benn Jordan (The Flashbulb) and Richard Devine.
The festival concludes on Sunday 19 September at Rodan, Chicago's original video bar, with a showcase of video installation art set to music curated by Living Sundays.
The Motion Graphics Festival is the premier creative conference for motion design, visual effects, sound design and interface technology - presenting a wide array of events including: art showcases, workshops, studio tours, theater screenings, industry mixers, and audio visual showcases.
The festival is sponsored by Columbia College, Future Media Concepts, Sterling Ledet, Adobe, Maxon, Stash, VidVox, IdN, Netdiver, Gen Arts, Resolume, Boris FX, Livid Instruments, Red Giant, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Digieffects, Lumen Eclipse, Toolfarm, Noise Industries, lynda.com, Total Training + more!
