Fall Internship Positions Available – You can be an Entrepreneurial Ninja in the Music Business

Everyone will want to hire you.

Tour:Smart is looking for interns.  (We also run Invisible Records).  Being our intern is hard work.  You’ll be drained at the end of the day.  There will be grunt work.  BUT, in return, you’ll be working on the front line of everything we do…which is probably not what you think.  Our focus is Tour:Smart – And Break the Band, a book written by label owner Martin Atkins.  If you don’t know this guy, take a moment for a quick Wikipedia search – he’s done it all, and more.

We’re routing tours, consulting with bands, speaking at conferences, planning seminars, writing blogs, writing the Tour:Smart’s sequel, and creating content for all of it.  (Did I mention we also produce, direct, and edit documentaries, one of which just won best feature length documentary at CIMM Fest 2009?)  In addition to all of that, we have our own recording studio, our own screen printing press, and of course, our record label.  We live and die on D.I.Y. mentality.   We will teach you everything we know.

Open positions:

•  Social Media intern – write our blogs and develop relationships with other Music Industry 2.0 sites.  Make friends with our community members and build our fanbase.  Run our twitter accounts (we have quite a few).  You must be witty, clever, and know how to write.  There will be a test. You must have an active twitter account to be considered for this position.  (Note: we’ll never ask you to use your personal accounts for company business, but we like to know that you can find your way around online.)

• Booking intern – work with our team to pitch and coordinate leads for our events (Tour:Smart seminars, CD release parties, gallery showings), route the tour, negotiate fees, coordinate with hosting venues, and manage tour merchandise sales.  We do two to three events/day when we’re on the road.  On top of that, you’ll manage all the marketing, PR, and promotion for each event (with the help of our social media intern guru).  If you can handle this, you can handle just about anything.

 • Event coordinator intern –Coordinate our weekend seminars we hold at our location – book speakers, make the schedule, coordinate catering, and be our host (or hostess) with the most-est (yes, we did just write that!)

• Label intern – run our label.  Use creative strategies to energize our strong fan base.  Create new products from our 20 year archive.  Get creative on twitter.  We’re not about signing new bands, but working with our 350 releases and honoring our history.  You get full control in this position.  The best applicants for this position will know graphic design, basic html, social media marketing, ecommerce, and have experience with project management.

• Band:Smart intern (project management): - organize our thoughts, sketches, outlines, and chalk drawings into a manuscript as Martin Atkins writes his next book Band:Smart.  You must be hyper-organized, a MS Word genius, have strong editing skills, and have patience.

• Organizational guru intern – everything else.  Manage our database, maintain processes and documentation, create tour itineraries, manage calendars, and whatever else you can think of!  If you like to color code everything and the people at the Container Store know you by name, this is made for you.
