In-School Music Instructor for K-8 in South Holland, IL.

·         Description:  Work with class once per week to teach basic music theory and prepare students for two annual performances (one Winter, one Spring).  While this is not our toughest school, it is a challenging position in terms of classroom management and student interest—especially the upper grades.  Prior experience teaching music in CPS or similar environment preferred.

·         LOCATION: 900 E. 154th Street South Holland , IL 60473

·         SCHEDULE:

§  Classes meet 8:15am to 3:10pm two days per week on TU and FRI (TH and FRI also a possibility, MON and WED are not options)

Classes begin the week of Sept 5 (on Sept 6 or 8), 2010 and end the first week of June 2011.

§  There will be six Fridays during the year that are no-programming days that will be made up on the following Mondays (please include your Monday availability in your application)

§  Winter and Spring Concert Dates are TBD at this time.

·        ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  •
    • In your cover letter, please share a sample 6-8 week curriculum designed to engage an 8th grade class that is “too cool” for music class—make sure it still communicates 2-3 essential elements of music theory.
    • The music instructor will move from class to class—there is no designated music classroom (sometimes classes are held in the Library).  Please consider this in your planning/application.
    • There is no set budget for supplies.  Supplies are provided by the school upon receipt of requests from the instructor, and requests for supplies are approved on a case-by-case basis.  Feel free to include a supplies estimate in your application.
  • PAY: $10,000 flat fee, paid in bi-weekly installments throughout the school year (comes to a little over $20/hr)
