· Description: Work with each class (one class pergrade level) once per week to teach basic music theory and prepare students for two annual performances (one Winter, one Spring). Instructor will also work with an after-school choir for one hour one day a week. While this is not our toughest school, it is a challenging position in terms of classroom management and student interest—especially the upper grades. Prior experience teaching music in CPS or similar environment preferred.
· LOCATION:The school is located near 92nd St. and Leavitt Ave. in Chicago
· SCHEDULE:
§ Mondays:1:00-3:30pm (includes a one-hour after-school choir)
§ Tuesdays:Noon-2:30pm
§ Wednesdays:Noon-2:30pm
§ Thursdays:Noon-2:30pm
o Classes will begin on September 13, 2010 and end on June 9, 2010.
§ There will be no programming on the following dates due to school holidays:
· Mondays: Oct11, Dec 20 and 27, 2010, January 17, Feb 21, Mar 7, Apr 18, and May 30, 2011.
· Tuesdays:Dec 21 and 28, 2010, Apr 19, 2011
· Wednesdays:Nov 17, Dec 22 and 29, 2010, Apr 6 and 20, 2011
· Thursdays:Nov 11 and 25, Dec 23 and 30, 2010, Apr 21, 2011
· One to four possible additional days off for testing, to be determined by the school in conjunction with the instructor
§ Winter andSpring Concert Dates are TBD at this time.

- In your cover letter, please share a sample 6-8 week curriculum designed to engage an 8th grade class that is “too cool” for music class—make sure it still communicates 2-3 essential elements of music theory.
- The music instructor will move from class to class—there is no designated music classroom (sometimes classes are held in the Library). Please consider this in your planning/application.
- There is no set budget for supplies. Supplies are provided by the school upon receipt of requests from the instructor, and requests for supplies are approved on a case-by-case basis. Feel free to include a supplies estimate in your application.
- PAY: $8000 flat fee, paid in bi-weekly installments throughout the school year (comes to a little over $22/hr)
