Chicago Music & Performing Arts Foundation seeks applicants for the part-time position of Master Instructor for its Inaugural Program. The Master Instructor(s) will need to specialize in either the arts (i.e., music, drama, movement, fine arts) and/or academics (i.e., mathematics, reading, writing). The Master Instructor(s) is needed for approximately 15-20 hours per week to work with third and fourth grade Chicago students. Instructor(s) will work at the Aberdeen Campus, located in Chicago’s West Loop, two days per week (weekday afternoons from 2:00-6:30pm; occasional weekends) throughout the upcoming school year. Benefits include gaining experience with highly motivated City elementary school students in a fun academic enrichment and performing arts program; collaborative program development, implementation, and evaluation; as well as salary and/or tuition grants commensurate with experience and responsibilities.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

•Serves as lead Teacher in charge of Homework Help, Music Ensemble, Artistic Expression, and/or Moving Meditation.

•Designs standards-based lesson plans/curriculum

•Develops teacher instruction manuals to facilitate reproduction of the classes

•Collaborates with the foundation’s Executive Director to assess and monitor program success

•Coordinates and supervises occasional weekend field trips to local arts venues

•Supervises volunteers and college student interns

•Communicates weekly with Chicago Public School teachers and administrators

•Communicates student progress with parents/caregivers

•Implements behavior management (“point system”) program

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

•Applicants should be child educators who are specialists in music, performing arts, and/or in elementary academic instruction. The ideal candidate would be proficient in both arts and academics.

•Exemplary organizational, problem-solving, collaborative, and communication skills

•At least two - five years teaching experience

•15-20 hours per week to devote to the program

•Dedication to the enrichment of Chicago students’ lives

•Diverse and Bilingual (English-Spanish) applicants are encouraged to apply
