Isis Oasis Residential Retreat For Women in the Arts
The Isis Oasis Sanctuary, 75 miles north of San Francisco, is converting from a retreat center to a residential facility for women in the arts, as of January 2010.
The program will provide space for up to twenty women to live and work on current projects in visual, literary or performing arts, and enjoy an ideal setting to inspire new creation.
Artists can apply for six months to one year residency. Women from all countries are welcome.
Each artist will have a room of her own and an appropriate separate workspace. They will have use of a beautiful theater for performances and a gallery for display of visual artworks. Women artists, writers and performers at any stage of their development will be considered and applications are emailed upon request.
The cost of residency will start at $650 per month, plus one month’s deposit. Included will be accommodations, working space, utilities, laundry, use of the pool, spa and sauna, wireless internet, a community kitchen and dining area. There is a veggie garden as well for all to share.
Isis Oasis Sanctuary, in the heart of Sonoma County wine country, is home to the Temple of Isis, a modern version of the ancient Egyptian tradition. The Temple’s mission is to provide a center and a focus for women who choose to view the Creator of all Nature as feminine – the Goddess who has been known by many names since ancient times. The Center was founded 30 years ago by San Francisco artist Loreon Vigne, who built a small Egyptian Temple on land that used to be a Bahai School. The centerpiece of the facility is a 600 year old Douglas fir tree, now permanently protected as a Sonoma County “Heritage” tree. Up a magical flight of tree-sheltered steps, lined on either side by colorful pheasants, is the theater. Adjacent is a swimming pool, spa and sauna within a secluded garden and a comfortable lodge decorated in an ancient Egyptian motif. There are many exotic animals including ocelots, servals, bobcats, African Crowned Cranes, and many other birds from all over the world. New to the Center is a Vivarium room housing interesting insects and small reptiles in glass terrariums.
