What is it about a studio that gives it the ability to produce sound quality of the radio or a major label record release?
Talent and integrity are the most important factors. Studio owners, Vijay Tellis-Nayak(http://www.myspace.com/vijaytellisnayak ) and Steve Gillis (http://www.myspace.com/stevengillis) have over 45 years combined in the music industry. Steve is one of Chicago’s great drummers. He toured and recorded with multi-platinum selling band Filter and has become one of Chicago’s prominent producers. Vijay is an accomplished pianist and composer and has performed with many of the world’s top jazz artists.
Transient Sound has the equipment that real records are made on. The facility has an SSL 4048 E/G mixing console, which is the preeminent mixing console. In the last twenty-five years, more than 80% of all Billboard hits and number-one songs have been mixed on this type of console. Top mix engineers regard it as an absolutely indispensable tool in creatingmusic for radio and film. This holds true even through changes in technology and competitive brands that have arisen over the years. There are fewer than six hundred of these consoles in existence throughout the world, and less than ten in the Chicago metropolitan area.
The studio also features the highest quality microphones, preamps, compressors, equalizers, monitors, and harnessing from world class manufacturers like Neve,SSL, Amek, Empirical Labs, Crane Song, Neumann, Manley, Smart, Royer, Gefell,API, and many more.
Transient features some top recording instruments including a Yamaha C7 (7’6”) grand piano to the studio and many vintage instruments including a MiniMoog, Sequential Circuits Prophet 1, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer ElectricPiano, Hammond B3 w/Leslie Speaker and more.
The studio’s live room is equally an essentialfeature. There are few studios inthe area that have the large space, high ceilings and large isolation areas that are required to both record large instrumental ensembles and to achieve record-quality drum sounds. The recording area consists of one large room and two “isolation” rooms. It accommodates a variety of ensemble sizes by offering a comfortable recording environment with clear sightlines and the ability to have complete acoustic control over the instruments in the different areas of the facility.
