Public Relations Coordinator

Part-time, 1 day per week, contract position

Position beginning date: October 1, 2008

The ESS Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for website maintenance, press contacts, dissemination of accessible information to the public, and assisting with inroads into untapped constituencies. The aim of these activities is to develop increased attention and access to ESS programs, and increased use of ESS recording services.  ESS is a nonprofit arts organization with a commitment to multidisciplinary cultural practice, so candidates should have a sincere interest in working in the nonprofit cultural sector.

The ideal candidate has webmastering skills and experience, the ability to work proactively and with minimal supervision, and a working knowledge of Chicago’s contemporary art, music, and cultural scene.

The position is a contract position, one day per week with flexible hours, $400 per month (paid semi-monthly).  The initial contract period is through December 31, 2008; renewal for a one-year contract will be available at that time.    

The Public Relations Coordinator reports to the ESS Executive Director.
Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Duties:
- maintain and consistently update ESS website
- coordinate ESS main website with websites used for other ESS programs, such as the Creative Audio Archive and Favorite Chicago Sounds
- write and send press releases and public notices
- maintain and consistently update press and mailing lists
- lobby reviewers and writers for coverage of ESS events and programs
