Studio Manager

Part–time, 20 hours per week, salary position

Position beginning date: October 1, 2008

The ESS Studio Manager is responsible for day-to-day activities and management of the ESS recording facilities and related programs. The ideal candidate has sound recording experience, exceptional organizational skills, the ability to work proactively and with minimal supervision, and a strong commitment to contemporary music, art, and culture. S/he must also have an affable and flexible attitude, as the job requires interfacing and working with a broad range of artistic personalities and the public. ESS is a nonprofit arts organization with a commitment to multidisciplinary cultural practice, so candidates should have a sincere interest in working in the nonprofit cultural sector.

The position is salaried for 20 hrs/week at $1,200 per month (paid semi-monthly), and includes two weeks of paid vacation annually. There are no medical or retirement benefits. Arrangements can be made for other unpaid leaves throughout the year. If the Studio Manager conducts workshops, tutorials, or session engineering (all of which are encouraged), those activities are paid in addition to the salary.

The Studio Manager reports to the Executive Director. S/he is assisted by a part-time Studio Assistant and interns.

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Duties:

- schedule recording sessions and studio visits

- field and respond to inquiries from the public through calls and e-mail

- develop estimates for clients

- coordinate, oversee, and manage Studio Assistant and intern assistants

- manage regular facilities maintenance by delegating duties to interns and Studio Assistant, including equipment maintenance, cleaning, gallery exhibition installation and maintenance, studio upgrades, etc.

- hire and screen engineers - hire, train, and screen interns

- develop and manage Workshops and Tutorials

- assist Executive Director with programs requiring technical, personnel, and facilities use, such as the Outer Ear Festival of Sound, the Artist Residency Program, the Audible exhibition series, etc.

- make acoustic improvements

- plan equipment and facilities upgrades
