Rhythmic performance ensemble Be the Groove fuses percussion and dance to spark a rhythmic revolution in an eruption of energy, music, and movement. Their new production Embrace the Fire explores the rhythms of change in the world through a combination of fierce drumming, explosive movement, intense body percussion, and searing spoken-word poetry.
Embrace the Fire is the group's first feature production and features new choreography, video, and music created by members of the ensemble exclusively for the show. Be the Groove presents Embrace the Fire for a limited two-week run from August 21 through August 31 at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont Ave.
In their two years as an ensemble, the members of Be the Groove have established themselves as a potent force in Chicago's dance, music, and performing arts scenes. They have impressed audiences at such diverse and popular venues as Millenium Park, Ravinia, the Old Town School of Folk Music, Navy Pier, and McCormick Place. The Chicago Tribune called a recent performance "A percussive firestorm" and said, "Their bodily choreography … is as entertaining as their relentless rhythms."
