ChicagoWe are called Sixty Inches From Center (SIFC) because we seek to document, archive and support art that exists outside the central iconic art institutions in Chicago. With video, audio, photography, writing, curatorial projects and outreach, SIFC will capture and contribute to the most innovative aspects of our city's peripheral visual culture.
For our first community engagement project we are asking Chicago artists and collectives to propose an innovative and audience engaging art experience to take place in, on and around the SIFC Truck. Think of places you’d like to park, communities you’d like to activate and people or organizations you would like to collaborate with to make this a unique experience.
The top three proposals will be selected by the SIFC team and advisory board, then introduced and broadcast during our initial launch event in the fall, and voted on by the Chicago public during the event. The final winning proposal will be the focus of SIFC’s first Collective Project for April 2011, and be backed by our fundraising efforts in the months leading up to the April 2011 date allowing you to see your project through with minimal impact on your wallet.
General information about proposals: Deadline October 1, 2010
We are looking for proposals that are thought-provoking, highly visual, interactive, inclusive and feasible, and that tap into the uniqueness that is the Chicago peripheral arts. Email proposals by October 1, 2010 to info@sixtyinchesfromcenter.org.
