What: OurProject Residency Program is geared towards projects and art practices that aresocially engaged, process oriented, participatory and multi-layered. TheProject Residents can treat the malleable project space as a laboratory,test-site, classroom, studio, experimental gallery or social space. We encourage our residents to take timeto explore and experiment without pressure for creating a completed work orfinal product.
Who we are lookingfor: We are interested in artists or groups who will use theirexperience at Spoke as a development of artist process and practice developingand rooting their projects -people who need and want support at the very foundationalcore of their project or practice and are interested in relationship building, sharing ideas and being a part of an active art community. We are looking forartists who are interested in working within a collaborative environment andwho will open up their “residency” to the public rather than keeping thisexperience within the confines of a private studio. Artists should have a needto incorporate public programming that can include workshops, conversations, film screening, performances, etc.
About Spoke:Founded in 2008, Spoke is a multifaceted artist-run organization comprised ofsix artist studios and an open space for public programming and projects. Since its inception, Spoke has beenhost to collaboration and exchange through the production of innovative events, performances, workshops, exhibitions and community-based projects. The publicproject space and working artist studios are shared, which creates a strongopen atmosphere and sense of community both within and outside of the space. This unique arrangement allows for the unexpected to occur while encouraging anopen and fluid exchange of dialogue and ideas among residents, visitors, collaborators, and the public. Spoke is dedicated to providing a place ofspontaneity, experimentation, and accessibility where a diverse range ofartists and creative individuals or groups can create, brainstorm, experiment, and develop new projects and ideas.
