Marwen provides high quality visual arts education, college planning, and career development programs – all completely free of charge – to Chicago’s underserved youth in grades 6-12. In addition, Marwen also provides professional development to Chicago-area school teachers and teaching artists. Technology programs can include introductory and intermediate level courses, related field trips, workshops, and special events. The coordinator works closely with the director of education and those leading Marwen’s various program divisions (studio programs, alumni programs, and The Marwen Institute) to fulfill the goals and obligations of the organization.

The coordinator of technology programs holds primary responsibility for organizing and leading the application of digital art-making tools throughout our facility. Overall, the coordinator of technology programs charts the conceptual as well as pragmatic framework for all digital art-making tools used in the organization’s program. Additionally, the coordinator is responsible for maintaining an ongoing dialogue with our off-site IT consultant and scheduling their work to assure the smooth operation of all technology systems serving our programs. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop new program ideas for growth in Marwen's digital media programs
  • Lead the planning for all program-related hardware, software, and peripheral purchases as well as other related capital expenses and coordinate their subsequent purchase, installation and integration with IT consultant
  • Coordinate the performance of routine maintenance, updates, and installations for program-related computers with support from Marwen’s IT consultant
  • Develop and maintain best practices for the use of technology studios and digital tools
  • Provide on-demand technical support and training to staff and faculty in the use of Marwen’s digital technology systems & tools
  • Maintain inventories of all equipment, hardware, and software
  • Establish and maintain all digital media program and facility budgets in coordination with the manager of studio programs, director of education, and other program managers, as needed
  • Participate in the development of content guidelines for digital media curricula and advocate for their use.
  • Coordinate and track the check-out and use of equipment through Marwen's Media Center
  • Advise on the installation of digital media artwork in Marwen’s gallery with the manager of studio programs and the exhibition preparator
  • Authorize and assist students in the use of Marwen’s college and career computer lab
  • Provide audio and visual tech support for special events and programs
  • Other duties, as determined by supervisors
Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Qualifications include a bachelors degree, preferably with a focus in digital art, art-making, and/or art education; comprehensive knowledge of current technological concepts, equipment, and resources; familiarity with the language and practices of digital art-making and its tools; excellent communication skills; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities; ability to link technological resources to a variety of learning environments; experience working in a collaborative networked environment; experience with multiple digital output formats including fine art printing, audio, video and other means of display; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, and iLife; and practical experience in the use of standard administrative software applications in the Microsoft Office Suite. Direct experience in a youth-based art education setting is highly valued.
