The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust has a Wright Plus/Special Events internship available during the spring of 2019. There will be a stipend paid for this position. Wright Plus is the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust’s annual House walk event; a full day tour of private and public buildings in the Oak Park/River Forest, IL area. The event will take place on May 18, 2019. The Trust operates five internationally-known sites (the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio and Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL, the Robie House in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, the Rookery Lobby Tours in the Loop of Chicago, and the Emil Bach House in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago) and is recognized as a leader in the restoration and preservation of historic sites, research, education and community outreach.
The Trust’s internship program welcomes students, graduates, and career-changers who wish to expand their educational experience by working and learning in a professional museum environment. Students interested in cooperative education or academic credit should contact their college placement office or counselor for more information. Individuals with special events planning, administration, arts, architecture or marketing focus or experience are encouraged to apply.
Interns are trained and assigned to perform guest duties related to the annual Wright Plus Housewalk event (description below). In addition, other areas of museum services and nonprofit management may be experienced through the internship. These areas may include public education, volunteer resources, special events, development, and membership (project example descriptions below).
PROJECT and DUTIES EXAMPLES:
As part of the hourly commitment to Wright Plus duties during the internship, interns may be matched with projects in other departments at the Trust. These may include projects such as:
- Wright Plus: Assist Wright Plus Coordinator in day to day duties. To include but not limited to; event preparations and logistics planning, set-up for training meetings, prepare correspondence and assist with mailings, work with event volunteers and vendors, organize event archives and historical files.
- Administration: Assist the volunteer resources department with volunteer recruitment and recognition activities. Make scheduling calls, respond to inquiries, set up equipment for events, compile materials, write articles and take photography for volunteer communications, compile statistics, conduct research, produce reports, other department duties as assigned.
- A 10 week internship. Approximately 10-15 hour commitment per week, beginning the last week of March and running through the last week of May 2019. Expanded hours the week of May 13-20, 2019.
- Applicant must be available the week of May 13-20, 2019.
The location for this position will be based in Oak Park, IL. Individual will be required to attend meetings and events in the Oak Park, IL vicinity. Workplace is a smoke- and drug-free environment. Equal opportunity employer.
