Summer Teaching Artists

 

Children’s Theatre of Western Springs, an award winning program in the Western Suburbs, is accepting resumes for their summer camp program! Seeking teaching artists qualified in the area(s) of improvisation, dance/choreography, acting/directing, voice/musical directing, musical theater and/or theatre generalists, as well as a camp coordinator positions. Our camps and classes programming are held at our beautiful theatre facility in Western Springs. We seek teaching artists who are passionate about their craft, love inspiring kids, are team players and dedicated to creating a fun, dynamic, inspiring environment. We believe in equipping kids on stage and behind the curtain, and creating a fun, safe, loving community. Come join a rich history of 70+ years of children’s theatrical programming!

Camp sessions are 2 weeks in length for kids Kdg-8th, and this year feature High School Musical & Madagascar. Staff are expected to be present from approx 8:30am-1:30pm daily (some adjustment 4th of July week) as well as attend pre-camp meetings and orientation as needed. Background check is required. Teachers are expected to create their own curriculum under the supervision of the Children’s Director and show materials.

  • Session 1: Madagascar June 12-23
  • Session 2: High School Musical June 26-July 7* (*July 3-6 will end 2:00pm. No camp July 4)
  • Session 3: Madagascar July 10-July 21
  • Session 4: High School Musical July 24- Aug 4
  • Teen Camp: The Addams Family: July 10-30th
Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 

Requirements:

  • High level of personal integrity.
  • Professional work experience in theater/education, related degree preferred.

  • Performance experience welcomed, you may send an additional resume if needed.

  • Professional experience working with children.

  • Ability to adapt material & teaching styles for skill or age levels.

  • Ability to manage large groups of children (up to 90 campers) with patience, kindness and calm.

  • Assist with general camp operations such as set up/tear down etc.

  • Able to work both independently as a teaching artist, and collaboratively as a directing team member.

  • Actively engage kids on an individual level and support other teachers with crowd control.

  • Utilize positive communication to correct behavioral issues.

  • Be highly flexible.

  • Demonstrate a great deal of energy, patience, and creativity.
