ElevArte Community Studio joined SGA in March 2018. SGA Youth & Family Services leads positive change for children and families in Chicago's most challenged and underserved neighborhoods. The non-profit has provided free, comprehensive services since its founding in 1911. SGA believes that sustainable community change results from a focus on early childhood, education supports, parenting, and workforce development. SGA serves as an advocate where Chicago youth have access to high-quality arts education, providing exceptional and relevant youth arts education programs led by professional artists that engage and inspire youth, families and teachers in early learning, K-12 classrooms, and out our out-of-school arts location Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.

We are seeking a Photography Teaching Artist to facilitate an after school photo program for youth 3rd - 6th grade. The residency will be twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5p at Gresham Elementary in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago. This residency will focus on basic photography skills and story telling through photography.

The residency is open to the creativity of the teaching artist.

Schedule: Twice a week from 4-5p, Tuesday & Thursday
Start Date: Oct 15th,
Pay Rate: $18 - $25 per hour. (Based on experience)

The residency wil run 10/29/2018 - 6/6/2019 (Pending). Looking to hire ASAP.

Skills & Qualifications: 
  • Experience in Photography
  • Solid and demonstrated understanding of youth development practices.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience and/or working with young people.
  • Experience working in a community based organization or school setting.
  • Experience working with young people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization
  • Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
  • Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Organization: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and activities
