The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is looking for performers to interpret Pierre Huyghe’s Name Announcer (2011), a durational performance.
Huyghe is an internationally known visual artist, whose work has been widely exhibited both in the United States and abroad. His art often involves the construction of social situations and living ecosystems. Recently, he has exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim, Bilbao, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Espace Louis Vuitton, Venice.
The work will be presented as a part of We Are Here, a series of exhibitions celebrating the MCA’s 50th anniversary.
Name Announcer is a contemporary artwork that references the royal courts and male court heralds. As required by the artwork, the MCA seeks a man or woman between the ages of 25 to 65 to perform a role that will be part of the visitor experience. The performance requires standing for extended periods of time, visitor interaction, and the ability to speak clearly and project one’s voice. Excellent command of the English language is essential. The male performer must wear his own black suit with white collared shirt, and black shoes (no sneakers). Female performers should wear a formal black dress or black pants and white dress shirt/blouse.
Auditions will be held on a rolling basis beginning immediately and the part-time position begins on October 20, 2017, and ends at the closing of the exhibition on January 28, 2017. Shifts will take place on a set schedule within museum hours and occasional evenings. Reliable attendance and availability during the holiday season is required. This is a part-time temporary position of up to 29 hours a week. Compensation is $12/hr.
