CMDC is in the midst of an exciting growth period due to worldwide recognition of HipletTM, Homer Bryant’s fusion of ballet and hip hop.  Because of this, CMDC seeks an experienced administrative leader to manage its expanding day-to-day operations. The Managing Director will be responsible for working with the Artistic Director and the Board of Directors to implement plans, and manage the financial operations of the school. This individual should possess the ability and desire to manage an arts organization and work with the broader arts and business communities in Chicago.

The Managing Director is a member of the executive staff along with the Artistic Director and is responsible for leading and assisting with all non-artistic aspects of the CMDC program. There is room for real growth for the organization and within the organization.

The candidate must be well-spoken, comfortable making public presentations and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the arts and education. He or she must be able to analyze and adapt to situations with funders, donors, school administration, parents, community leaders and staff.

Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 

Qualifications:

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in dealing with funders, community leaders, and personalities of note is desirable. Knowledge of the workings of non-profit and fund-raising. Experience in dealing with arts school administration.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Provides background information and financial documentation to part time Development staff for grant submissions.
  • Works with the Board and the Artistic Director to obtain knowledge of individual donors and strategies for on-going identification and stewardship of individual donors.
  • Plans and executes Annual Fund Campaign with Board.
  • Works with the Board to sets goals and timelines to ensure fundraising success for special events.

Board Relations

  • Works with the Artistic Director and Board recruitment committee to manage communication of CMDC school and board activities.
  • Provides board Treasurer with monthly financial reports and planning materials.
  • Plans and schedules regular and special meetings as directed and/or appropriate.

Public and Community Relations

  • Manages the schedule of CMDC activities, provides lists and updates to the Board and/or Marketing consultant
  • Cultivates new opportunities to present CMDC to a broader public.
  • Explores collaborations with like-minded organizations.

Administration

  • Develops annual budget for review with Artistic Director and Board Treasurer and Chair.
  • Oversees all contracts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Manages staff in execution of responsibilities.
  • Oversees human resources and payroll.
