The Society for Contemporary Art (SCA) at the Art Institute of Chicago is seeking candidates for a temporary, part-time position to support its upcoming June fundraiser. The ideal candidate would work two days per week (10-15 hours, from October 2017 to the end of June 2018) on the biennial Benefit, a major source of revenue for the 200+ member, non-profit organization. The Benefit, scheduled for June 2, 2018, will include a 500 person gala and a 100 item silent auction.
The Benefit Coordinator reports directly to the SCA Program Director. Example tasks for Benefit: Draft letters to associates at commercial galleries, artists, and patrons of the museum; track status of auction items; research and write labels about auction items; write for publicity materials; work with outside event vendors, including online auction companies; oversee volunteers at the event; update website; take reservations and process payments; prepare documents and PowerPoint presentations for meetings and special events; file and sort documents.
The SCA was founded in 1940 to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the art of our time. Each season the SCA's programs offer members access to an exciting roster of national and international artists, historians, dealers, and curators as well as visits to distinguished private collections in Chicago and major art centers both here and abroad. The Society has also made a tremendous impact on the museum's collection of modern and contemporary art.
