Accompanist | Allegro Community Chorus

The Allegro Community Chorus is a mixed adult amateur chorus that sings a wide variety of music that includes folk songs, spirituals, popular music new and old, jazz arrangements, some lighter classical pieces, songs from movies and musicals, music for the December holidays, and more. The Accompanist’s primary duties are to provide piano accompaniment for Allegro Community Chorus rehearsals and concerts; lead occasional sectional rehearsals; assist in planning the concert season as requested by the Artistic Director; and be supportive of an educational and professional environment. The Accompanist is a part-time position reporting to the Artistic Director. Possibility of additional hours if desired and available. 

DAYS/HOURS 
Wednesday, 6:45 – 9:15pm Additionally: 3 major concerts (winter, spring, and summer – including dress rehearsals, and occasional outreach performances upon request.

STARTING RATE OF PAY
$17.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience

Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in music and/or strong background in piano accompaniment with knowledge of historical practices required. Must have previous experience accompanying a choir or chorus, playing a variety of music styles, and should be familiar with choral warm-up techniques. Must be comfortable playing with a rhythm section and in occasional solo passages. Some improvisational skills are desirable but not critical. Strong choral-score reading skills are essential. Applicant will work collaboratively with the Artistic Director, Chorus Manager and administrative staff.

 

Must pass successful criminal background check prior to employment.
