 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

1. Chicago and International visual artists will be chosen for this project through a local call for participants or by invitation. Artistic discipline is open. all disciplines will be considered including painters, installation artists, video artists, performance artists, sculptors .

2. one local CHICAGO artist will be paired with one international artist.. The challenge facing the artists: to form a collaborative relationship in a relative brief period of time, without knowing anything about their partner before they are introduced.

3. Though the Internet, chat rooms, and social networking sites a virtual relationship will be formed. Each pair will collaborate on works of art of their choice. There will be no restrictions on how the collaboration will be conducted. These ideas can be executed by whatever means necessary for each pair. The number of artworks produced is not limited, but final artwork submitted will be curated based on the space of the venue(s)

4. Several venues in CHICAGO are being applied to. The exhibition will take place fall 2011 to give artist pairs plenty of time to get to know each other and create work together and to raise funds for the international residency/symposium

5. Artists will present their work in a public forum.

 

ARTISTS SUMBISSION GUIDELINES

To participate IN MY OWN BACKYARD I CAN SEE THE WORLD, we are currently seeking artists from the city of CHICAGO

DEADLINE: APRIL 9, 2010

YOU MUST HAVE INTERNET ACCESS, EMAIL AND ACCESS TO SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES SUCH AS FACEBOOK. SKYPE WILL ALSO BE USED FOR THIS PROJECT.

1. IMAGES jpgs, size700 pixels as the longest side.

Label jpgs with your initials, and title example: CN_TitleNo1.jpg If you have more than one style of work you would like to show, please images from each series labeled with your initials, series title and image number. example: CN_FlashSeries_No.1 . Include 6-10 images for each series up to 3 series

2. Title, medium, size of artwork, date completed written in a list that corresponds to the series and number on the jpg.

3. Your BIOGRAPHY WRITTEN AS A NARRATIVE. You can see examples on the site. The artist section is updated as artists are approved for the project or as information is received.

4. Your CV saved as a PDF file

5. A brief statement re: your interests as an artist in social, political, local, global, environmental issues, personal concerns, and/or anything else about your work or art practice that ties in with the idea of this particular project. You don't have to speak to all of these concerns, one or two is plenty.

6. Other collaborations/residencies you have participated in and how your work was impacted.

7. Languages you speak place of birth and current city where you live.

8. $25 USD APPLICATION FEE, PAYABLE BY PAYPAL. You will be sent a PayPal invoice to your email, once your application is received.
