The Chicago Artists Resource (CAR) website is a project of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. CAR is an online resource for artists and arts organizations, used by more than 65,000 people every month. CAR links to articles and resources for professional development in Music, Dance, Theater and Visual Art, as well as other artistic disciplines, as well as providing a platform for community-contributed content, such as jobs, spaces, events, calls, and forum topics. Interns will work on various areas of the site, based on artistic discipline (Music, Dance, Theater, Visual) or content category (Space, Business, Events, Calls, Artist Stories, etc.). Duties will include researching new content, updating links and descriptions, inputting data and conducting / coordinating various types of outreach.
Job responsibilities:
Research, writing, editing of arts resources content for website, coordinating with partner arts organizations on outreach for CAR, which will involve conducting extensive targeted outreach to the arts community and providing detailed instruction on interface options. Interns will also assist CAR Artist-Researchers with ongoing content development, demonstrating the website on off-site visits, and other tasks as needed.
What would an Intern Learn:
The student will receive an in-depth understanding of Chicago’s art community, its available resources, organizations, events and initiatives, as well as national organizations and resources. Other opportunities for public speaking, event coordination, planning, conceptual thinking. Develop understanding on government functions, meetings, policy making, programming, funding, curating, etc.
