Pecha Kucha Night celebrates its first birthday in Chicago with a fifth event at Martyrs’ on June 4, 2008 at 8:00pm. Following a sell out event in March, the Pecha Kucha phenomenon is fast becoming an essential night out on the Chicago creative calendar. Confirmed presenters are James Venturi, Jim Lasko, Ed Stevenson, Arielle Weininger and Paul Tebben, Michael Wilkinson, Joshua Wentz, Arild Øvrum, Steve Skinner, Monte, Barbara Koenen, and Jeff Scurry. It’’s an assortment of artists, musicians, a filmmaker, a foodie, and a mountaineer from Norway! Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a creative, innovative forum in which passions (and work) can be easily and informally shown. This is a demand that has gone global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over eighty cities across the world. This is the fifth Pecha Kucha Night Chicago – Volume 4 attracted over 350 Pecha Kucha fans to see an ”array of artists, musicians, architects, designers, writers and activists each presenting their work in some depth but at a comically breakneck pace—20 slides, 20 seconds each.” Another sell-out is expected.
