Garden Sculpture + Wet Carved Concrete Workshop with Elder G. Jones at The Chicago Mosaic School

Friday, October 19, 2018 - 7:00pm to Sunday, October 21, 2018 - 1:00pm

The Chicago Mosaic School is excited to host Tennessee based Artist Elder G. Jones, who brings his knowledge of concrete to CMS for this 2½ day “Wet Carved Concrete” workshop. Carving wet concrete is a method of sculpting that produces a durable piece of art. Artisans used this unique technique and process early last century to make architectural elements.

This process involves creating a sand and cement mixture that sits in a form until stiff. Students through slicing, carving and scraping shape the slowly hardening material. No power tools or hammer and chisel are required. It is an excellent method for producing sculptural forms that can be used for inlaying 3D mosaic work. Students create a small sculpture or planter about the size of a five-gallon bucket. Each student keeps their (roughly forty pound) sturdy, weather tolerant creation that will be a great addition to any garden or home. Carving tools are provided to participants.

All materials will be provided for the class. No Experience Needed!
