Inkbombed is an art exhibit by Hugostyle “STEP ONE” which explores graffiti and hip-hop's role in addressing social, racial and economic justice. Since graffiti's earliest forms, globally it has been utilized as a tool for the voiceless and oppressed to express their struggle for social change and draw awareness to issues affecting their communities. Hip-hop's roots in poor inner-city communities are undeniable. Despite the current focus on bling, fame and clubbing, graffiti and hip-hop are still valuable and effective ways to promote progressive social justice movements today. Join us at the opening of Inkbombed as we celebrate the socially conscious side of graffiti and hip-hop. The evening will feature spoken word, art, performances, music, and a panel discussion.

Performers include Segundas Productions, Army of Juan, Misha Ferguson, and Rominna Villaseñor. Also featuring Step One, Eams, Static, About, and more.

IMAN Community Cafe : Spirtitual Expression | Artistic Devotion
Event Type:
Performance
Friday, June 27, 2008 - 6:00pm
Don't miss out on a special Community Café Friday, June 27th at 6pm in the heart of Southside Chicago's historic Bronzeville neighborhood at the Parkway Ballroom. Join us as we explore the spiritual drive and motivating factors for art from a diverse group of performers. From the Native American Hip Hop music of Culture Shock Camp to the boogaloo dance and movement styles of Robot M.A.F.I.A (Masters Aligning Forces Influencing All) to the Nu Jazz Sitar sound of Renegade Sufi, we hope to share a glimpse of these artist's spiritual expressions with all in attendance.  Of course we will also showcase Chicago local artists with a theatrical piece by EthnoSis, a short musical set from Chicago's own Imam William Bilal, and an IMAN Art Installation.

Make sure to attend this one of a kind event and bring a friend!
