The Circle at the American Indian Community House is a versatile 1500 square foot space used for performances, readings, workshops, classes, lectures, and social gatherings. There are four entrances to the space with a portable stage which allows for various configurations. The Performing Arts Department coordinates various cultural activities featuring Native American performing artists, and promotes and assists all-Native ensembles such as Spiderwoman Theatre, Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, Coatlicue Theatre Company and Ulali. The department provides referrals for Native storytellers, musicians and lecturers. It also acts as a non-paid booking agent for Native actors, dancers and models. AICH provides rehearsal space and technical assistance to Native American artists and has a main stage called The Circle which seats up to 150 people.

Thousands of art collectors, dealers, and visitors will converge on the Bucktown and Wicker Park neighborhoods of Chicago in one of the city's most unique celebrations of the arts. Each year, hundreds of painters, photographers, sculptors, actors, performers, dancers, poets, and filmmakers participate in this unique opportunity to exhibit and sell their work to visitors from all over the United States. Studios and local businesses are transformed into galleries, open store fronts teem with artists and viewers, and scheduled and impromptu performances add an interesting flavor to the festival. |

Studio 210 has been providing affordable audition, rehearsal, and low-tech performance space since l980. AOTM is currently focusing on producing events at the studio and raising 210's visibility in the community. This includes festivals such as Engaging the Imagination, featuring teachers such as Deborah Hay (dance), Brechin Flournoy (Butoh), Rachel Kaplan (writing), Deborah Slater (performance techniques), The Field (with Maxine Moerman) and Anna Halpern (movement scores) and free Open Rehearsals for National Dance Week. The space has a wood floor, black curtains, mirrors, a sound system and basic theatrical lighting. Risers can be created for intimate performances. Each season Art Sanctuary brings together the living resources of African American art — the artists who create work that expresses, imagines, envisions and re-envisions life in our contemporary world. The series acts as a community curriculum which is offered for the enrichment of individuals and groups at all levels of education. The program features school matinees, reading projects at various educational sites, artists residencies for teens, collaborative projects, panel discussions, and teachers’ workshops. |
