Seeking Dance Pieces: Dance Chicago presents "Dances from the Heart" 2/14/2012

Dance Chicago seeks new work to present in the upcoming concert “Dances from the Heart,” at Chicago’s Athenaeum Theatre (2936 N Southport) on February 14, 2012. 

To be considered, complete the online application by clicking here http://dancechicago.com/artistform.php.   Application deadline is January 15, 2012 with notification of acceptance by January 22, 2012.  All groups selected will receive a guaranteed performance fee, a percentage of each ticket sold via their dedicated discount code (pre-sale online only) and free rehearsal space for the work for the concert at the Athenaeum Theatre / Dance Chicago Studios.  Applying is free.

“Dances from the Heart” features high-powered, emotional works in a concert celebration of the past 17 years of Dance Chicago’s service to the dance community in which it presented over 4,000 different companies and choreographers and 40,000 Chicago artists, exhibiting their work to audiences of over 170,000.

Dance Chicago was founded in 1995 by Artistic Director and Curator John Schmitz. The festival was originally in residence at the Athenaeum Theatre, and since 2008 has expanded to venues all over Chicagoland.  Over the years John has presented a myriad of major companies including The Joffrey Ballet, The Dutch National Ballet, The Moscow Ballet, Trinity Irish Dance Company, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, River North Chicago Dance Company, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and Joel Hall Dancers in conjunction with new small dance troupes and young independent artists -- offering concerts that access the broadest range of dance styles.  Dance Chicago continues to provide new and engaging opportunities for both established and upcoming Chicago choreographers and dance artists to perform, connecting and benefiting the dance community as a whole.
