Tribal Drills & Body Awareness with Mae the Bellydancer & massage therapists Meggan Shortall & David Walsteadt.
Participate in a drills workshop like you've never done before. Mae the Bellydancer is offering a two part tribal drills and body awareness workshop with the aid of two licensed massage therapists. Each two hour workshop will start with a warm up, stretches, and drills designed to improve your dance posture, strength and endurance, and with the help of our massage therapists, work out any kinks or non-participating muscles. In addition, our licensed massage therapists will contribute their anatomy knowledge to help you recognize and activate muscles to increase your body knowledge as you dance. Think of being able to do a pit stop during the workshop, ala Nascar, for a quick 2 minute massage tune up, then returning to the drills. We will have a cool down at the end of each session with a one hour break in between. Please feel free to ask Mae or our two massage therapist questions pertaining to weak or non-participating muscles during the break.
The first half of the workshop (12-2pm) will focus more on body zones, i.e. hips, chest, shoulders, abdomen, arms, etc. The drills in this section will focus on balancing movement on all sides of the body, to target that "weak hip" or that "lazy chest slide to the left" that affects us all. And most importantly all drills will be done with dance posture in mind.
The second half of the workshop (3-5pm) will combine these body zone drills into short combinations that will form a solid tribal and tribal fusion bellydance foundation that can be incorporated into any routine or performance. We will drill and expand upon sidewinders and other more stationary movements, 3/4 shimmies, undulations, camels and other traveling movements just to name a few. Take BOTH workshops with Mae for just $55(pre-reg)!
Please wear snug fitting work out clothing during the workshop. No skirts or noise making hip scarves will be allowed. Dance shoes, socks or bare feet ok. For any questions, please contact Mae the Bellydancer at maethebellydancer@gmail.com
This workshop, is a great way for dancers of other genres to break into tribal fusion bellydance. Of all the bellydance styles, tribal fusion has the most focus on muscle isolation to create sharp and smooth controlled movements. You can incorporate these isolations into your own dance style for more grounded and fluid movement!
